Faith Sherman returns to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht

In the CSO’s Beethoven and Witches Masterworks Concert, Faith Sherman will take the stage as mezzo-soprano soloist in The First Walpurgis Night, a spooky tale of ghosts and witches perfect for the Halloween Holiday! Performances are October 29 and 30, 2021 at 7:30pm at the Charleston Gaillard Center. Maestro Ken Lam will conduct.

Faith Sherman to be presented in Houston Recital

Ms. Sherman will sing works by the gifted American composer Ricky Ian Gordon and others. She will be joined by Michael Kelly, baritone and Keith Weber and Paul Kwak, pianists, at 7:30pm on May 15th at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Concert Series, Houston, Texas.

Faith Sherman returns to Houston Grand Opera in Wagnerian Role

Faith will join the cast of Die Walküre with Maestro Patrick Summers at the helm as HGO launches its second production of Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelungen in April 2015. She will sing the role of Rossweisse on the stage where she won first prize in the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias in 2007 and received her early training as a Studio Artist from 2007-2009 in roles like Beatrice in Berlioz’ Beatrice et Benedict.

Faith Sherman featured with Marion Cotillard on inaugural season of the Philharmonie de Paris

Faith Sherman will make her Paris debut in February 2015 as Catherine in Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au Bûcher on the much-anticipated opening season of the Philharmonie de Paris, new home of the Orchestre de Paris in the Cité de la Musique. Marion Cotillard takes on the title role; Kazuki Yamada will conduct.

Rappahannock County is featured listing on Naxos label

The recently released recording of Rappahannock County, featuring Faith Sherman, recently reached #29 on Naxos’ list of their top 40 best-selling cds. It was also a top album pick on their home page.

Recording Released

Faith Sherman is featured in a recently released recording of Rappahannock County, a music theater work commissioned in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War. The Virginia Opera premiered this unique work in 2011. It was composed by Ricky Ian Gordon to lyrics by Mark Campbell. It is comprised of 20 songs for soloists and chamber orchestra.

Faith Sherman performs at Lincoln Center Festival

In July Ms. Sherman sang a mezzo-soprano role in Lera Auerbach’s groundbreaking a cappella opera, The Blind. The opera, based on the symbolist play by Maeterlinck, focuses solely on the human voice. The work is scored for 12 a capella singers and no musical instruments whatsoever. The Blind was presented by American Opera Projects. Julian Wachner conducted, and the stage director was John La Bouchardiere.

Welsh National Opera to feature Faith Sherman as Smeaton in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena

Autumn of 2013 finds Faith singing eleven performances of the role of Smeaton in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena with the Welsh National Opera. The performances begin in Cardiff and then tour through Wales and several cities in England

Faith Sherman appears in recital at Konzerthaus Berlin and the Gütersloh Theater

Faith collaborated with soprano Edda Moser and pianist Manuel Lange for two recitals, Die Kunst Des Deutschen Liedes (The Art of the German Lied) at the Gütersloh Theater and Ein Abend mit… Neue Stimmen (An Evening with New Voices) at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Ms. Sherman sang works by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, Strauss and Pfitzner.

Faith Sherman sings at the 2012 Saito Kinen Festival, Seiji Ozawa, Director

Faith spent the month of August at the Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto, Japan, where she covered the role of Catherine in Arthur Honegger’s Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher (Joan of Arc at the Stake). The piece was conducted by Kazuki Yamada in the Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre Main Hall, nestled amid the stunning scenery of the Japanese Alps. The summer of 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the festival.

Faith Sherman Sings Bernstein’s Jeremiah Symphony at Aspen Music Festival

Ms. Sherman was featured as mezzo-soprano soloist in the First Symphony, Jeremiah by Leonard Bernstein with the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen on July 3, 2012. The 2012 Festival season theme was "Made In America" and was the first to be led by incoming music director Robert Spano. Faith also performed the Jeremiah Symphony to standing ovations in January 2012 with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

Faith Sherman Advanced to Operalia Semi-finals

After her strong performances of Octavian's aria "Wie du warst" and Charlotte's "Letter Scene," judges moved Faith into the semi-final round of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia World Opera Competition in Beijing, China on June 7, 2012, narrowing the field of singers to 23 semi-finalists. Each year a select jury of three respected opera professionals listens to over 1,000 applicants, and forty are selected to participate. The competition takes place in a different city in the world each year. It is a wonderful opportunity for young singers to be heard by General and/or Casting directors from international opera houses and to receive artistic and career advice from Maestro Domingo.

The Sound of Music at Carnegie Hall with Faith Sherman

Faith Sherman appeared at Carnegie Hall in a gala production of The Sound of Music on April 24, 2012. She performed the role of Sister Sophia alongside the amazing Stephanie Blythe as Mother Abbess. Rob Fisher (Chicago), with whom Faith recently collaberated in Rappahannock County, was the music director, and Gary Griffin (The Color Purple) was the stage director.

Colorado Springs Philharmonic presents Beethoven & Bernstein featuring Faith Sherman

Faith Sherman enjoyed standing ovations for her performances of La captive, orientale, Op. 12 (The Captive) by Berlioz, and Bernstein's First Symphony, Jeremiah with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic in January, 2012.

Faith Sherman sings with Aperio

Faith Sherman was featured in a program called Exquisite Decadence, The Twilight of American Romanticism, on January 22, 2012 with the Aperio Chamber Music Society in Houston, TX. The program included 4 Poèmes, Op.5 by Charles Martin Loeffler.

Faith Sherman in Semifinals of Neue Stimmen

Faith Sherman was one of the semifinalists in the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition held biennially in Gütersloh, Germany. Auditions are held in 23 cities around the world and, from over 1,400 applicants, 15 singers from 11 countries were chosen. Faith Sherman performs Rappahannock County

Faith Sherman repeated her triumphal performance of Rappahannock County at the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond and the Texas Performing Arts Center at University of Texas at Austin in September of 2011. This moving new music theater work, which Faith premiered with the Virginia Opera in April of 2011, was composed by Ricky Ian Gordon to lyrics by Mark Campbell. With 20 songs for soloists and chamber orchestra, and a stage transformed by projections of the Civil War, it portrays the lives of common people affected by the war. It was commissioned in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.

Faith Sherman performs Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele

Faith Sherman appeared as guest soloist in the Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi with the Orchestra & Chorus of the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, conducted by Michael Hofstetter, on July 2, 2011. Verdi’s original sound was reproduced by the use of period instruments by the orchestra. The performance was repeated on July 4, 2011 in the magnificent Art Nouveau building of the Opéra de Vichy, in Vichy, France.

Brief Encounter Recording

Faith Sherman debuts with Oper Frankfurt

The American mezzo-soprano Faith Sherman made her debut with Oper Frankfurt in December, 2010 in the role of Concepción in L’Heure Espanole, a comic opera by Ravel.

Faith Sherman nominated for 2010 Grammy Award

Faith Sherman has received a 2010 Grammy Award Nomination in the category “Best Opera Recording” for her performance as a principal artist in John Musto’s Volpone. Ms. Sherman is featured in the leading role of Erminella on this recording, recently released by Wolf Trap Recordings, of a live performance at the historic Barns at Wolf Trap.

Faith Sherman makes auspicious European debut with the English National Opera

Faith Sherman performed the role of The Pilgrim in Kaija Saariaho’s opera, L’Amour de loin in July, 2009 with the English National Opera to the raves of critics around the world. Excellent, superb, sensational, and striking are some of the words used to describe her singing and stage presence.

Just Released—Volpone with Faith Sherman as Erminella

The Wolf Trap Opera Company has announced the release of a recording of John Musto’s Volpone, an opera in two acts unfaithfully based on Ben Jonson’s comedy. Faith Sherman was lauded for her performance as Erminella in this production, which was recorded live before an audience at the historic Barns at Wolf Trap.

Pink at the Brown Gala Concert features Faith Sherman

Faith Sherman, mezzo-soprano, was a guest artist for Pink at the Brown: The Arts Bring Life to Houston!, a gala concert benefiting Pink Ribbons Project for Breast Cancer on March 26, 2009. Faith shared the stage at Wortham Center’s Brown Theatre with artists from the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Alley Theatre, Da Camera of Houston, and the Society for the Performing Arts.

Faith Sherman Performs at Opera America’s 2008 National Opera Trustee Recognition Awards

Opera America presented a preview of excerpts from Brief Encounter, a new opera by André Previn, at its first annual National Opera Trustee Recognition Awards ceremony, with Faith Sherman in the lead role of Laura. The event took place in New York City on January 26, 2008.

Faith Sherman featured in World Premiere of The Refuge

Faith Sherman was mezzo-soprano soloist in the World Premiere performances of The Refuge, a new work commissioned by Houston Grand Opera to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Wortham Theater, presented on November 10, 2007 under the baton of Patrick Summers.  With music by Prix de Rome-winning composer Christopher Theofanidis and libretto by poet Leah Lax, The Refuge tells the stories of extraordinary journeys by people from Houston’s African, Central American, Indian, Mexican, Pakistani, Soviet-era Jewish and Vietnamese communities.  The new work is at the heart of HGO’s ‘Song of Houston’ project, a unique initiative designed to connect a great opera company to its community through collaboration.  In the weeks leading up to the world premiere, Ms. Sherman also performed in a number of events at various Houston venues to showcase movements from The Refuge.

Faith Sherman joins the Houston Grand Opera Studio

After winning the 2007 Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, Faith Sherman was chosen to join an elite group of young singers at the Houston Grand Opera Studio.

The mission of Houston Grand Opera Studio is to provide career development for young artists who have demonstrated potential to make major contributions to the opera/musical theater profession.
